EAEE undergraduate student Eva Grunblatt received Floyd Hasselriis Scholarship
Eva Grunblatt is one of the winners of the Floyd Hasselriis Scholarship
In an effort to stimulate the interest of students in solid waste management and related fields, and to support colleges and universities that offer curriculum or courses in solid waste management and related fields, the ASME Materials & Energy Recovery Division (MER Division) provides each year the Floyd Hasselriis Educational Support Award to four undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to financial advocacy for the student and their respective university, the award provides unique opportunities for the recipients to participate in the ASME-MER committee meetings.
This year, Eva Grunblatt is one of the winners of the scholarship. Eva is an undergraduate student at Columbia University and research assistant at the Earth Engineering Center (EEC-Columbia), working on topics that relate to the advancement of sustainable waste management, and circular economy. Eva plans to graduate in Spring 2021 from the Earth and Environmental Engineering Program. Last summer, Eva worked on a project that was a collaboration between the EEC-Columbia and the United Nations, and she contributed significantly to the implementation of sustainable waste management solutions for the signatories of the UN Paris Agreement. Eva's research also includes NYC's food waste problems and the implementation of waste-to-energy plants in areas of the world that are producing more solid waste than can be reasonably managed with existing infrastructure.
